1979 United States Mint Set – First Year of the Susan B. Anthony Dollar
The 1979 United States Mint Set includes uncirculated examples of every circulating denomination struck by the Philadelphia, Denver, and San Francisco Mints. Packaged in its Original Government Packaging (OGP), this set marks a major milestone in modern U.S. coinage with the introduction of the Susan B. Anthony Dollar, the first small-sized U.S. dollar coin. The official mintage for the 1979 Mint Set was 2,560,000 sets, reflecting strong collector interest in this historic debut year.
Inside this set, collectors will find uncirculated examples of the Lincoln Cent, Jefferson Nickel, Roosevelt Dime, Washington Quarter, Kennedy Half Dollar, and the first-issue 1979 Susan B. Anthony Dollar from both the Philadelphia and Denver Mints. As in previous years, San Francisco contributes an “S” mintmark business-strike Lincoln Cent and Jefferson Nickel. The 1979 SBA Dollar is especially notable for its distinctive 11-sided border design and representation of pioneering suffragist Susan B. Anthony.
With separate cellophane panels for each mint, the 1979 Mint Set offers excellent clarity for viewing luster, strike details, and mintmarks. As the inaugural release of the SBA Dollar series—and the beginning of the modern small-dollar era—this set remains an essential addition for collectors assembling late-1970s and early-1980s Mint Set runs.
